    1. National Science Day was celebrated on 02-03-2021. Dr. M. Lokeshwari, Associate Professor,
      Department of Civil Engineering, R.V. College of Engineering, delivered a talk on
      “Geo Informatics in Solid Waste Management”.
    2. World Water Day was celebrated on 22-03-2021. Dr. A. Bhanu, Chief Technical Officer,
      ICAR–Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Govt. of India, delivered a talk on
      “Water – Elixir of Life”.
    3. Dr. H. Chandrashekar, Selection Grade Lecturer, Department of Civil Engineering, received the
      Best Research Paper and Best Research Presentation Award in the international virtual
      conference “Advancements and Innovation in Civil Engineering” conducted by K.D.K. College of Engineering, Nagpur,
      held on 18–21 March 2021.

Industry Institution Cell (IIC)

MEI Polytechnic has been a pioneer in implementing the concept of Industrial Attachment Programme (IAP) for over two decades. Through IAP, students are placed in relevant industries during vacations, allowing them to gain practical experience and exposure to real-world industrial environments.

This initiative has evolved into a structured and impactful program under the Industry Institution Cell (IIC), which further strengthens collaboration between academia and industry to enhance student learning and employability.

Key Objectives and Activities of the Industry Institution Cell (IIC):

  • Signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with industries for in-plant training opportunities.
  • Providing technical support and mentoring for student project work in collaboration with industry.
  • Coordinating campus interviews and placement drives for graduating students.
  • Arranging industrial visits to expose students to practical working environments and processes.
  • Organizing guest lectures by industry experts and alumni to bridge knowledge gaps.
  • Facilitating entrepreneurship development activities and start-up support.
  • Encouraging student participation in technical fairs and organizing exhibitions.
  • Enabling faculty upskilling through industrial training in latest technologies and tools.

Student Induction Programme – MEI Polytechnic

M.E.I Polytechnic conducts the Student Induction Programme to help new students adjust and feel comfortable in the new environment, understand the ethos and culture of the institution, build bonds with peers and faculty, and engage in self-exploration.

The induction helps students acclimatize to their new academic and social roles through a well-structured process. It begins before regular classes commence and includes activities designed to connect students with the institution and each other.

Key components of the induction program, known by the acronym SAGE, include:

  • Socializing: Interactions with fellow students, seniors, faculty, and guest speakers
  • Associating: Campus and departmental tours, city orientation
  • Governing: Introduction to rules, regulations, and student support systems

Centenary Year Celebration of Indian Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement

100 years of Minimizing, Alleviating and Preventing Human Suffering (1920 – 2020)

A Brief Report of Youth Red Cross Unit

The Red Cross Society is a worldwide, well-known, universally accepted, admired, and internationally identified humanitarian service organization. It is the largest independent, non-religious, non-political, non-sectarian, and voluntary relief organization treating people equally across the globe without any discrimination as to nationality, race, or religious belief.

Established in 1863 in Geneva, Switzerland, the Red Cross movement was founded by Jean Henry Dunant, who was honored with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1901.

The seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement—Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality—form the ethical, operational, and institutional framework of its work.

The motto of Red Cross is: “With Humanity, Towards Peace”

The objective of conducting any program or activity under IRCS-KSB/YRC at the college level is to provide career guidance and develop skills for students and volunteers to enhance their overall personality. NSS REPORT

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian Government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Launched in Gandhi’s centenary year in 1969, NSS aims to develop students’ personality through community service.

NSS at MEI Polytechnic comprises over 100 enrolled volunteers. NSS classes are conducted every Saturday and on special national days. These classes include theory sessions, cleaning activities, and social awareness programs. Additionally, annual special camps are organized for volunteers.

Activities Conducted in 2019–20

Independence Day:
Celebrated on 15th August 2019.
Sadbhavana Divas:
Celebrated on 20th August 2019. Students and staff took an oath on this day.
De-worming Day:
Celebrated on 25th September 2019. Albendazole tablets were distributed to students.
NSS Day & Electoral Literacy Club:
Celebrated and inaugurated on 24th September 2019.
Tree Plantation:
Conducted on 23rd September 2019 at the Mechanical and EI&C Departments.
Vigyan Jyothi:
Volunteers participated in the launch of the 107th Indian Science Congress at GKVK, Bengaluru.
National Youth Day:
Celebrated as Vivekananda Jayanthi on 12th January 2020 at Kanteerava Indoor Stadium.
Voter’s Registration Program:
Held on 7th January 2020 with the presence of BBMP officials who distributed voter registration forms.
National Elector’s Day:
Observed on 25th January 2020. Students and staff took an oath.
Republic Day:
Celebrated on 26th January 2020.
Martyr’s Day:
Observed on 30th January 2020.

Campus Cleaning Activities

  • On 13th February, the EI&C Department cleaned the campus.
  • On 15th February, waste was segregated into plastic and biodegradable by the EI&C Department.
  • The biodegradable waste was buried in the soil.

Blood Donation Camp

Conducted in collaboration with the Red Cross Unit and NSS on 26th February 2020.

Annual Special Camp

Held at Kadabagere village and Bangalore University NSS Bhavan, Bengaluru, from 6th February to 12th February 2020.

CCTEK Report

CCTEK conducts various short-term certified professional courses for polytechnic and engineering college staff and students under the guidance of the Directorate of Technical Education. These programs are delivered by highly qualified and experienced faculty. Each participant is provided with comprehensive training and high-quality course material.

C.R. Iyengar Memorial Resource Centre

The C.R. Iyengar Memorial Resource Centre is one of the major support services at MEI Polytechnic. It caters to the needs of over 1,300 members (faculty, students, non-teaching staff, part-time faculty, etc.) with the support of two dedicated staff members.

The resource centre houses over 24,000 hard copy books and 25,000 e-books. It subscribes to 24 technical journals, 5 general magazines, 4 daily newspapers, and maintains over 75 back volumes of technical journals. The media collection includes more than 80 educational video cassettes, 750 educational CDs, and 80 educational floppies.

The Resource Centre also maintains a repository of 600+ project reports across six disciplines (Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Electrical & Electronics, Electronic Instrumentation & Control, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering), submitted by final-year students. These are available for reference in both hard copy and digital formats (stored on the server for easy retrieval).

Digital Library

The Digital Library was established with financial assistance from AICTE–MODROBS Project and MTES during the Golden Jubilee Year of MEI Polytechnic. It features:

  • 1 IBM Server and 20 Client Computers
  • 6,000 hours of high-quality technical video lectures and web courses developed by NPTEL (a consortium of IITs and IISc) funded by MHRD, Government of India
  • Over 160 technical video lectures from NITTTR Chennai
  • Access to over 25,000 e-books for staff and students
  • LCD Projection System with increased seating capacity to accommodate 80 students per session
  • One-hour weekly slots per semester integrated into the timetable for digital library usage
  • Internet access in the digital library
  • Scanned semester exam papers from the last five years, stored on the server

New Initiatives in the Resource Centre

  • Reading room expanded to accommodate 100 users
  • Complete automation using barcode technology
  • Smart cards issued to all staff and students
  • OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) search facility provided
  • CCTV Surveillance and Smart Lighting System (motion sensor-based), implemented by final-year E&E students as part of their project
  • Digital Library client systems increased from 12 to 20
  • Videoconferencing setup for DTE Studio interactive sessions, seminars, workshops, and campus interviews
  • Membership in the National Digital Library of India (NDLI), an MHRD initiative
  • Added 25,000 e-books across all engineering disciplines to the digital collection
