Admission Procedure
Introduction Admissions to MEI polytechnic
for the above Diploma programs is monitored and controlled by the Directorate
of Technical Education in Karnataka. All the latest information about
admissions to Diploma programs is available in the website of Karnataka Examination Authority. |

The admission to 1st year
Diploma for MEI Polytechnic will be conducted by Department Of
Technical Education (DTE) in co-ordination with Karnataka Examination Authority,
Bangalore (KEA) and National Informatics Center (NIC). The admission process
usually starts with the issue of the notification for admission by the
Directorate in leading news papers of the State. The advertisement generally
appears in and around the dates of announcement of Secondary School Leaving
Certificate results conducted by the State Govt. It may be some time in the
last week of April or First week of May or around that period. The
announcement is also made on the website https://dtetech.karnataka.gov.in/kartechnical/ and https://cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea/ of
the Directorate. |

The prescribed Application Form
along with the Information Brochure will be available in KEA & DTE
websites https://cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea/ & https://dtetech.karnataka.gov.in/kartechnical/ respectively.
Candidates shall download the Application Form and Brochure from the website
and fill up the Application as per the instructions.Admission to diploma
courses is based on merit in each category of reservation. Out of the total
seats 50% of the seats are reserved for various groups of the society.
Remaining 50% of the seats are allotted based on the marks scored in the SSLC
for technical Courses. All the Details of admission to Diploma courses are
available in the Admission Brochure.From 2017-18, Government has given
permission to Department of Technical Education to follow "Online
Interactive counselling " admission process.
Eligibility for admission to
Evening Polytechnic. In addition to the eligibility
mentioned in Sl. No.01,02.04 and 05 above The candidate should have minimum
three years of experience in respective Technical field after passing SSLC as
on the 01-07-2017 and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) given by the employer
must be produced at the time of admission to part-time diploma course in the
prescribed format. Lateral entry admission to 3rd
semester diploma: Candidates who have passed SSLC or Equivalent Examination with 35% of marks in aggregate and should have passed JTS (3 years course) / ITI (2 Years Course) recognised by Govt. of Karnataka are only eligible for seats reserved under JTS / ITI quota. Admission will be considered only for the candidates coming under JTS quota and ITI quota for Diploma First semester courses.
Fee structure for the diploma
courses in Government & Aided polytechnics in the state is mentioned
below as per the Government order No. ED 119 TPE 05 ,dt: 18/10/2005. and G.O.
No. ED 10 TPE 2012, Dated:29-05- 2012 and G.O. No. ED 64 TPE 2016,
Dated:21-06-2016.
* In addition to the above fee
the candidates have to pay Rs.40/- towards NSS (Polytechnics where NSS unit
exists) ** In addition to the above fee
the candidates have to pay Rs.50/- towards NSS (Polytechnics where NSS unit
does not exist) The candidates who have
selected the seats of their choice through interactive counselling shall pay
the admission fee as per prevailing Govt. Orders as under

40/- towards NSS in institutes only where Additional Self-financed NSS unit
is willing to establish when NSS unit exists. ** The Candidates have to pay 50/- towards NSS in institutes where Self-financed NSS unit is willing to establish when NSS unit does not exist. Admission
Reservation Policy
SPECIAL RESERVATIONS. 1. GIRL STUDENTS: Thirty percent (30%) of seats are reserved for
Girl Students in all Government / Aided Polytechnics(Co-Education) in
respective categories. 2. KANNADA MEDIUM STUDENTS: Five percent (5%) of seats have been reserved in Government and Aided
Polytechnics in the state in favour of candidates who have studied for
10 full academic years in Kannada medium from 1st standard to 10th
standard in any recognised Institution located in Karnataka vide G.O. No. ED
91 URC 2002, date: 31/07/2002. 3. Rural: Means a candidate should have studied in places other than the
following areas: Larger urban area, Smaller urban area or Transitional
area for a period of ten academic years between 1st standard to
the qualifying examination as per the Karnataka Municipalities Act 1964
of Municipalities Corporations Act 1976 in accordance with the
Government order ED 01 TEC 2002, BENGALURU, Dated: 01-02-2002 and
eligibility criteria shall be as defined in the Karnataka reservation of
appointment of posts in the civil services of the State of Rural
Candidates Act 2000 (Karnataka Act 1 of 2001). Candidate’s whose parents
do not come under the creamy layer and candidates who have studied TEN full
academic years from 1st Standard in places other than the places mentioned in
ANNEXURE X-A will be eligible for claiming the benefit of Rural
reservations. However, if the candidates have studied in these
places from 1st to
10th
standard before the date of notification as urban area, such candidates are
also eligible to claim rural reservation benefit. (See ANNEXURE-X). 4. Differently Abled Students: Three percent (3%) of seats are reserved in all Government /Aided
Polytechnics in respective courses. (See ANNEXURE-VIII)
5. As per the constitution amendment to the article 371(j), for local candidates belonging to HK region, 70% of seats in the institutions of HK Region and 8% of seats in the institution of rest of Karnataka region are reserved. The candidates belonging to Hyderbad-Karnataka region as per 371(J) shall obtain the relevant certificates as per Annexure-XVIII & produce for verification at the time of document verification & online application submission.
6. Supernumerary Quota:- The AICTE has introduced the Supernumerary Quota in all
Govt./Aided/Private Polytechnics. Five percent (5%) of the seats in each
Polytechnic and in each course will be reserved as Supernumerary Quota.
This Quota is over and above the intake sanctioned by the Government. For
example, there are 60 seats in Mechanical in a particular Polytechnic,
the Supernumerary Quota for Mechanical in that particular Polytechnic will be 3 seats. Therefore, the total intake in that Polytechnic for Mechanical will be 63. The tuition fees prescribed by the Government in that particular Polytechnic will be waived off. But, the candidate has to pay other fees (Development+Misc). However, the candidate who obtain Admission Order under Super Numerary Quota are not eligible for change of course and Polytechnic any time during the period of study. The Income limit for claiming seat under SNQ quota for the current academic year will be as per G.O. No.Ed 72 TEC 2013, Dt: 23-05-2014 which is notified on the official website (www.dte.kar.nic.in) of DTE after obtaining directions from the Government.
Special Note: The candidates belonging to the reserved categories mentioned in the
above table are exempted from payment of tuition and other fees. i. Candidate belonging to SC/ST: The candidates should compulsorily apply for fee reimbursement
of eligible fees as per the relevant Govt. Orders. online on Social Welfare
Department website failing which the candidates have to pay the entire
fee as that of general candidates. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe
category candidates who have been allotted seat under general category
and relevant category, whose parental annual income from all sources is below Rs.2.50 lakhs are eligible for
exemption / reimbursement of certain fee as per G.O.. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category
candidates who have been allotted seat under general category and relevant
category, whose parental annual income from all sources is below Rs.2.50
lakhs are eligible for exemption / reimbursement of certain fee as per G.O. ii. Candidate belonging to Backward Communities and Minorities: The candidates should compulsorily apply for fee reimbursement of eligible fees as per the relevant Govt. Orders. online on Backward Communities Welfare Department and Minorities Welfare Department websites respectively failing which the candidates have to pay the entire fee as that of general candidates. The candidates who have been allotted seat under general category and relevant category, whose parental annual income from all sources is below Rs.2.50 lakhs for Cat-1 and below Rs.1.00 lakh for 2A, 3A, 3B categories are eligible for exemption / reimbursement of certain fee to the extent of rates applicable to Govt. Seats in Govt. Institute as per G.O.
Document Retention Policy: At the time of admission candidates have to
produce necessary documents as per their seat type. All the documents will be
retained with the institutes and will be returned after the verification. Necessary Documents required during admission
